Angelica Herrera, PhD, is a senior researcher and project lead for Massachusetts's Region 1 Comprehensive Center early literacy needs assessment. Dr. Herrera has served for five years in the Comprehensive Center Network providing technical assistance and research support to projects in Massachusetts and Texas focused on early literacy, school improvement, and equitable access to effective teachers. For the Region 1 Comprehensive Center, Dr. Herrera collaborated with the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) in improving K–3 literacy instruction by conducting a statewide needs assessment focused on educator preparation in K–3 literacy instruction and educator implementation of evidence-based literacy practices in K–3 classrooms. Dr. Herrera’s areas of expertise include program evaluation and research, logic modeling and program implementation, literacy, instructional programs and practices for English learners, and school improvement.
