When aligned with evidence, literacy interventions are an effective way to improve student outcomes in reading, writing, and speaking. Unfortunately, there are few tools to help educators and administrators analyze the effectiveness of adolescent literacy interventions for students in grades 4-12. This deficit requires teachers and districts to fill the gaps themselves using interventions that may not align with best practices.
R1CC is working with the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education to develop the Adolescent Literacy Intervention Selection Tool (A-LIST) — a tool that helps schools and districts select literacy interventions that align with the IES practice guide Providing Reading Interventions for Students in Grades 4–9 and to culturally and linguistically sustaining practices.
